Salzburg: Move Over Julie
Visiting Salzburg will leave one feeling as if they have stepped into The Sound of Music. Don’t be surprised if you find yourself humming music from the film as you tour this lovely Austrian city. Salzburg has a well preserved old town area and is designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
There is much to do and see in this exiting and historical city. Schloss Hellbrunn began life as a summer holiday residence for an archbishop. It is situated on lush grounds with many gardens and fountains. Some of the fountains ar “trick” fountains spouting water at unexpected times. The palace has a performance hall where operas and musical performances are held. This site is great for the whole family. Pack a picnic lunch,(or ask your hotel for one), and have a picnic on the grounds.
On a mountain overlooking the city is an ancient fort, Hohensalzburg Fortress. The fortress is now a museum with a large collection of medieval armaments and torture devices. There is only one house near the fortress. Legend states that it was unlucky to live near the person who performed the executions in the fortress!
The famous composer Mozart was born in the city and his home is now a museum. Mozart’s Geburtshaus is the home where he was born in 1756. The museum has a large collection of everything Mozart and is a special treat for music lovers.
There are many other sites visitors will enjoy such as the Salzburg Zoo and the Salzburg toy factory. There is so much to see and do in the city that visitors will want to book a second holiday in the city!
